The Pentlatch Language

Pentlatch was spoken in the East central portion of Vancouver Island. The last fluent native speaker passed away in 1940. The community is now trying to revive the language.

The indigenous name for this language is not known. The English name is an anglicization of /pəntl'áč/, the name by which the Pentlatch were known to the neighbouring Comox and Sechelt.

Pentlatch is a Salishan language.
