Sechelt is spoken on the coast of mainland British Columbia, to the north of Squamish, across the strait from Pentlatch.
The indigenous name is /ʃáʃíʃáɬɵm/. Shashishalhem is a practical spelling of this term. The English name Sechelt is an anglicization of /ʃíʃáɬ/, the Comox name for part of the Sechelt penninsula.
Sechelt is a Salishan language.
